MGB GT (327)

$85.99

A popular marque in both the UK and the USA during the 1960s and 70s, the Corgi range featured surprisingly few MGs. This MGB GT, produced between 1967 and 1969, is a notable exception.

With doors and a tailgate that opens to reveal a detailed interior with folding seats, the icing on the cake was a miniature suitcase in the boot – an item that is frequently missing from original examples. Whereas the suitcase came in either brown or black, the car itself was only available in red with a pale blue interior.

It was given wire wheels – a classic and desirable feature on actual MGs – yellow jewelled headlights, chrome front and rear bumpers and an accurately replicated MGB GT badge on the tailgate. The tooling was later utilised for Corgi 345 – a 6-cylinder MGC, which explains that model’s additional bonnet bulge!

MGB GT

Upon looking at some of the other reviews I learned that, as I suspected, the MGB-GT model offered is, if fact, much smaller than the one I had as a child (circa 1965). I’m OK with the smaller version, it’s very nicely made, but somewhat disappointed

Disappointed Corgi Collector

Having a large (100+) original Corgi car collection that I started as a boy in the mid 1960's, like so many of us, that has been in storage for the last 35 years, I was quite disappointed in the quality of the MGB GT and the 300 SL I recently purchased. The scale was way smaller than the original 1/43 that Corgi cars were, and I noticed the ones in the catalog that did actually have a scale listed were between 1/48 and 1/52, much smaller than 1/43 original Corgi size. Additionally, for the price paid and description given, I certainly did expect a decent quality product, not so! These cars were basically Gas Station quality Chinese manufactured toys you can buy for $6.99 in my opinion, very substandard to the 1960's era Corgi's. I guess I will have to dig my original collection out and get to enjoying them again! if you were a true Corgi kid, you will be disappointed in the latest versions. Cheers!
