What a fantastic copy of the original I’ve had since the 70’s. All the details the same except the copy was not made in Britain. It’s cool to display them side by side.
In the early 1960s, my family had a VW Beetle. We lived in the Collorado mountains. One summer night I was driving the Bug on a rough road in the high mountains and hit a rock and it puncured the gas tank. We were milles from anywhere. Along came a rancher and he was headed into Colorado Springs and said he would try to get us some help. Two hours later this VW Van pick up truck arrives looking just like a breakdown truck. And he hooked his little crane up to our Beetle, we joined him in the very cramped front seat and took us to his workshop where our Beetle went on the lift and he had some super gunk that he used to patch the gas tank and we headed on our way. My biggest regret was that I had no camera with me and this missed a near unique photo of a VW van towing a VW Beetle down a mountain road. In the early 60s that would have been a real sight for sore eyes, as we would say. The little Corgi 490 reminds me of that adventure eveery time I look at it.
The Corgi Junior version of this was the original Corgi Club club car. I still have mine and it has always been one of my favorites. I never owned this much larger version as a child. The reason being I was primarily concentrating on all the TV/movie models that were for sale in those days. This new model is a perfect recreation of the original-wish I hadn't waited 50 years to buy it!
