Buick Riviera (245)

Introduced into the Corgi range in 1964, the Buick Riviera was produced in gold, metallic blue and pale blue. It was given Glidamatic suspension and Corgi’s innovative ‘Trans-O-Lite’ front and rear lights – which could be independently operated by placing your hand over either the front windscreen or rear window.

Unusually for a Corgi it came with a rear tow hook, which could be hitched to a separately available boat and trailer (Corgi 104). The model sold well on both sides of the Atlantic – over 800,000 were produced – and remained in production until 1968. The most sought after version today is the version with wire wheels – as opposed to cast spokes or plain spun hubs. The Riviera and boat combination was also available as Gift Set (No.13).

Excellent Corgi Model

I have collected more than 60 corgi models over the last five decades and the quantity of this Buick Riviera is just as good as the original. Excellent work.

My Dream Car

I have always loved the 1963 - 1965 Rivieras and having this blue beauty is a dream. So glad they decided to reproduce these and hope they release the other original light blue that was made.

The full-size 1964 Buick Riviera has become very popular on the collector car market over the past few years. There are many current die cast versions being sold. Recently I bought the Matchbox "Moving Parts" edition with opening doors. Of course, I like the Corgi more. The original issue was before my time (do not remember from childhood), but it has become one of my favorite Corgi models. Very nice.
For those having trouble with the lights just place model on window sill. When the sun comes up lights go on and sun goes down lights go off.

Buick Riviera

The model car looks very accurate, nice color. However, the electric lights don’t work which is a bit disappointing.
