480 - Chevrolet Taxi Cab

$42.99

In 1965, Corgi produced an update of the tooling for 1960’s Chevrolet Impala Taxi (Corgi 221) by introducing a Chevrolet Police Patrol Car (Corgi 481) and the brightly coloured Chevrolet Taxi Cab (Corgi 480).The police car was by far the bigger seller, with well over 500,000 produced, making Corgi 480 something of a rarity – especially when accompanied by its original box.

Based on American cars, each model included a driver figure in the left-hand seat. More notably, each had an unusual horizontally split die-cast body – a casting that allowed the top and bottom of the models to be painted separately, without the need for masking. This meant less wastage at the factory due to paint errors and allowed Corgi to create the taxi’s striking red and yellow scheme.

Size: Length: 106mm Width: 42mm Height: 35mm

All our Corgi Toys replicas are authentic and faithful to the originals and come with their own numbered certificate of authenticity.

Love the brilliant colors on this taxi!

This is one Corgi model I didn't own when I was a boy, but I did have the "State Police" Chevy with the plain disc hubs and this model is a perfect companion to it (hoping the Model Club will release that version too). The use of modern paints really shows to advantage in the flawless finish of this model and the color scheme is very attractive. As reviewers have noted before, the sharp two-tone color separation was aided by a bifurcated diecast body that traps a single chrome piece including side trim, grille and bumpers. On the first model I received, there was a large gap between the body halves and the chrome in the front - it appeared the flange on the front rivet didn't hold, allowing the halves to separate. The Model Club response was great - they shipped another model immediately after I notified them of the problem, and that one is perfect. I only mention this to assure everyone that, should anyone have a problem or flaw with a model, the Club's customer service is a pleasure to deal with.

This is a 1959 Chevy Impala. Not a 1960.
