Chevrolet Taxi Cab (480)

$42.99

In 1965, Corgi produced an update of the tooling for 1960’s Chevrolet Impala Taxi (Corgi 221) by introducing a Chevrolet Police Patrol Car (Corgi 481) and the brightly coloured Chevrolet Taxi Cab (Corgi 480).The police car was by far the bigger seller, with well over 500,000 produced, making Corgi 480 something of a rarity – especially when accompanied by its original box.

Based on American cars, each model included a driver figure in the left-hand seat. More notably, each had an unusual horizontally split die-cast body – a casting that allowed the top and bottom of the models to be painted separately, without the need for masking. This meant less wastage at the factory due to paint errors and allowed Corgi to create the taxi’s striking red and yellow scheme.

Size: Length: 106mm Width: 42mm Height: 35mm

All our Corgi Toys replicas are authentic and faithful to the originals and come with their own numbered certificate of authenticity.

Review for Chevrolet Taxi Cab 480

Another stellar win - these models and packaging are so awesome, like small time portals back to my childhood. I really love the COA Tin and the retro-catalog from 1966 - it is so much better when you see it in person than the picture. I'm really hoping that Corgi re-releases some of the gift packs and garages, etc. in that retro catalog.

Good quality and craftsmanship

The Corgi Model Club's 1959 Chevrolet Taxicab # 480 is stunning! Excellent quality and craftsmanship! With it's 2 piece [ upper and lower] body mold- without the need for the factory to tape off the body for a perfect paint job of red & yellow gives a terrific paint job to this taxi. I always wanted one in the 1960 era as a kid aged 8-10 yeas old but never did get one. They were always sold out at my local New York City " Doll Hospital " store in Manhattan that also stocked die cast vehicles. That store itself was an icon within New York City for decades. Kudos to the Corgi Model Club for resurrecting this model.
